About Us

Scothedge was set up many years ago to lobby the Scottish Government regarding the nuisance of badly or non-maintained hedges and trees causing a barrier to light and the enjoyment of their property.

In March 2013 The High Hedges (Scotland) Act 2013 was given royal assent and in 2014 the Guidance to Local Authorities was published.

It was intended that people in Scotland would be able to have recourse via their local authority by means of a High Hedge Notice to have such nuisance hedges and trees reduced in height.

It became evident that not all Local Authorities were interpreting the Act in the same way which led to unsuccessful outcomes in some parts of Scotland and continuing frustration of many.
